Does floating have negative side effects?
People trying floatation therapy for the first time sometimes feel nauseous at the end of their session, but it is very rare to feel nausea after the first visit. Because of its non-invasive and weightless nature, floating is one of the safest activities anyone can enjoy. Make sure to eat a light meal an hour prior to your float and stay hydrated! (If you do regularly experience motion sickness or have trouble reading in the car, we suggest taking Dramamine or similar preventative prior to floating.)
Should I float if I’m pregnant?
Yes! Pregnant women actually can benefit a great deal from float therapy. During the later stages of pregnancy, even simple things like sleeping can cause muscle strain. The float tank can relieve this pressure by creating a buoyant environment where women can finally escape many of the discomforts of pregnancy. A float session, in fact, makes a great baby shower gift! However, in the first trimester, as with most activities, we do recommend checking with your doctor first or avoiding floatation therapy altogether.
I don’t like small places—can I still float?
Absolutely. When you float, you do not have to close the tank door or turn off the tank light. In fact, you can control both of these functions from inside the float tank. Customers who’ve initially expressed fear of small spaces feel much better once we’ve explained that they control the entire process and eventually feel comfortable enough to close the door and turn off the light.
Is it possible to drown in a float tank?
The high saline content of the water makes people so buoyant it is impossible for them go below the surface of the water. Even after getting settled, it takes a large amount of effort to touch the bottom of the float tank.
How are the float tanks kept clean?
The high salt levels in the float tank water (along with a very small amount of disinfectant) protect the tank environment from harmful bacteria. The float tank water is also filtered automatically between each session. In addition, floaters are asked to shower before and after their session.
How should I prepare for a float session?
There’s actually very little to do. Our only recommendation is to avoid shaving on the day of your float. The salt water of the float tanks can be very irritating to newly shaved skin. We do offer Vaseline for customers to cover any small scrapes or cuts and this can work for shaved skin, but if possible, it is best to refrain from shaving at all.
What should I bring to a float?
There is no need to bring anything; we provide everything you need. Bodywash and shampoo are available for pre- and post-float showers and towels are provided for a nominal fee. You do not even need to bring a swimsuit, since all tanks and showers are located in their own private room. However, if you wish, feel free to bring your own bath products, swimsuit and towel. We want all of our floaters to feel at home and comfortable.
Will the water get into my ears?
The water in the float tank will come up past your ears. We recommend using ear plugs, which are provided free of charge. Cotton swabs are also provided in case you get water in your ears.
I made an online appointment—when will you charge my credit card?
Your credit card will be billed at the time of booking. If there is a no-show or cancellation less than 24 hours before your appointment your card will be charged a $10 fee. Prior to your appointment booking check out our online store at serenedreams.floathelm.com/store to see different package or membership options. This allows to pre-purchase floats at a discounted price.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! Many of our floaters bring friends or spouses with them when they come to Serene Dreams. We have three float pods at our center. To make sure there are two pods available at the same time, book an appointment online and make sure you or your friend book online at the same time. Packaged floats that are purchased under one client may be shared
Can I leave the pod cover open?
Yes! You have complete control over the cover. You are in full control of your environment!
Do you have a first time floater discount?
Yes, we offer 10% off for all new floaters. Let us know before or after your float if you would like to take advantage of this special. This offer cannot be combined with any of our other specials or gift certificate purchases.
Is the shower time part of my float appointment?
Yes. Each float room is equipped with a private luxury shower. You have access to the float room, including the shower, for your entire appointment time. So, for instance, if you have a 60 minute appointment, then you may shower for 5 minutes, float for 50 minutes, and then shower again for 5 minutes. Of course we recommend keeping your shower time short so you can enjoy the float tank for as long as possible!
How many pods do you have?
We have three pods, one of which is handicapped accessible. Many people bring a friend and book simultaneous appointments. We are also available for parties. Please contact us to inquire about availability.
How much does it cost to float?
We are constantly running specials for our floats at Serene Dreams. The best way to see exactly how much your float will cost is to visit our online booking page, which shows all the current rates along with discounts and our multi-float package pricing.
How do I book two pods at the same time?
Many people come to Serene Dreams with a friend, especially if it’s their first time floating. While we accept walk-ins, we highly recommend booking your appointments ahead of time to ensure there are two tanks available at the same time. To book two pods, visit our online booking page. First choose your service (for instance “60 min. float”). On the next screen, choose your room (Room 1, 2, or 3). Then on the next page, find the time and day you would like to float. At this point, do not book yet. Press the back button on your browser and choose a different room then ensure that the same date and time is available for the second room as well. If it is, go ahead and book the second room like normal, filling out the contact and payment details. When you are done booking the second room, you must repeat the process to book the first room that you chose. You may book two rooms with the same name and email, but we recommend actually using the name and email of your friend. That way he or she gets the email reminders for the appointment and may also submit a review after their floating experience. Feel free to contact us if you are having trouble. We can also make your appointments over the phone.
Is there a minimum age requirement to float?
There is no age requirement, but guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for their first float so that they can complete initial paperwork. We have had children as young as six years old and adults as old as 90 float. Some parents even bring in their children with ADD or ADHD because they find floatation is calming and helps them focus. In short, floatation is wonderful for any age; however, minors must be accompanied by an adult.
